ALTO keeps your migrated archive in your own facility, on storage that powers idle media down. Files from a videotape or LTO migration land on ALTO in non-proprietary formats you can read without our software, with an air-gapped copy available when you need one.

What ALTO gives you
- Your archive, in your building. Files from FlyPack videotape migration or LTO migration land on ALTO in your facility, on storage you own.
- Powered down when idle. An archive is read occasionally, so idle media is powered down and power use stays very low.
- Readable without our software. Content is stored in non-proprietary formats you can read from any Mac or PC.
- Air-gapped option. An offline, physically disconnected copy, out of reach of ransomware and accidental deletion, with documented restore paths.
- Checked, not assumed. Integrity verification and an integrity and restore test are part of every storage setup.
Where ALTO fits
ALTO is the local copy in a Meta Martis project. Most archives discover they have only one copy at the moment something fails, so we recommend a second copy off site as well. The Free Archive Assessment sets out which copies your library needs and where each should live. See Security and data control.
